This past weekend, members of the Peak Medical and Rescue team attended the Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW) Annual Conference—a vital event that supports continuous professional development for mountain rescue professionals across the UK.
Held in Lancaster, the conference brought together experts from mountain rescue teams, emergency services, and outdoor safety organisations. For our team, it was an opportunity not just to learn, but also to engage with others who share the same commitment to saving lives in remote and challenging environments.
Importantly, the event featured a wide range of workshops and talks. These included sessions on casualty care in extreme weather, team leadership during multi-casualty incidents, and the latest in rescue logistics. We were especially keen to explore new innovations in remote medical care and pre-hospital trauma response.
In addition to learning, the conference provided a chance to see the latest rescue and medical equipment on the market. Suppliers showcased everything from lightweight stretchers and technical clothing to updated comms systems and life-saving medical tools. Staying informed about these advances helps us ensure our medical and rescue capabilities remain at the highest possible standard.
What made the event particularly valuable was the chance to connect with others in the field. Through conversations and shared experiences, we gained practical insights that we can bring directly into our future deployments.
Keeping skills sharp
Of course, training never stops. But attending events like the MREW conference keeps us up to date, sharp, and ready to meet the evolving challenges of mountain rescue. We left the weekend inspired, more knowledgeable, and even better prepared to deliver outstanding medical and rescue support—wherever we’re needed next.
We’re grateful to MREW for organising such a worthwhile event. Continuous learning is key, and we’re proud to be part of a community so dedicated to safety and excellence in the outdoors.
